Dear Smile Customer,
As you may know the Tanzanian government has changed the definition of what is classed as telecommunications to a broader definition called electronic communication services. This new definition now means Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are classified within the same group as mobile operators.
Alongside this the government has introduced a new tax and increased an excise tax which previously did not apply to data. These taxes are effective as of 1 July 2013.
The new classification of telecommunications coupled with the rise in excise duty have had a negative impact on the cost structures of all Internet Service Providers in Tanzania and has left the industry, including Smile Communications with no alternative but to increase the price of services sold to customers with immediate effect.
Notice is therefore given that Smile Communications’ existing price structure has been revised and that the cost of our data packages and tariffs will now be as follows effective from 15th July 2013:

BundleValidityTariff (TZS)

Email: [email protected]  should you have any questions or require further clarity regarding any of the changes referred to above.
With sincere regards,
